I agree with your point and would answer "yes", FSU UCONN, ND and Arkansas aren't elite, but they are solid teams that are comparable to many B1G teams. A sweep would be a good sign. My only complaint is the lack of a non-con road game. The Wisconsin game seemed to catch IU completely unprepared and it wasn't exactly a raucous environment. Just a bunch of geriatric German people and fat-ankled girls scarfing down brats. Memo to Archie/New AD: Play a true road game before conference season begins.

    IU/Kentucky

Starting a separate thread to get it away from the Notre Dame game thread. IMO, IU should wait until Cal leaves before we look to get back in the series.....no need to let him dictate the terms a series that he isn't going to be around for. There is some dissatisfaction there -- I think UK fans were mentally counted the number of championships in their heads when he first came on board and now after ten years they've had one and one final four in the last eight years. That's certainly good by any measure, but UK is still a blue blood and their fans aren't happy about having a top one or two class every year and not seeing those kind of results. Cal isn't in danger of getting fired, but he's a guy who has always left before the **** was about to hit. And I think his narrative is that he still wants another crack at the one place he failed -- the NBA. Anyone, a UK/IU series to me doesn't draw the same interest to me with UK's continual year in and year out shuffling of players who turn pro after a year.......it's hard to get good storylines when the faces change every year.

(2021) G Luke Brown to Ball State

Pretty sure I never said that. I have no ill will towards Luke Brown the kid. I am sure he is a great kid. I do have an issue with his friends/family talking about him on message boards 24/7 and hyping him up when it’s been said multiple times that he is not going to be an IU caliber player. At least, I would hope that you are his friend or a family member because otherwise it would be downright creepy. It actually still is with how much you reply to yourself in this thread and try to bait other people into talking about him. You literally do not post in any other thread than this one and claim to be an IU fan. also, I’m from the Dubois County area and know people who saw the game. At least one person I talked to said Brown is a good high school player, but everything is run for him and he gets basically all of his teams shots. They did not think he was close to the caliber of player that would succeed at IU. I hope Luke has a great college career wherever he ends up, but this making him into something he is not, especially by you, is really tiring and frankly, weird.

    IU/Kentucky

I read an article the other day about why Utah agreed to play a home-and-neutral series with UK and it made me want to gag. They acted like they were completely at UK's mercy when it came to deciding where the games would be played. I know a lot of people don't like Glass, but his proposal was perfectly reasonable and I'm glad he didn't bow to UK like others have done.

When pUKe signed other contracts similar to what IU was asking it was obvious why the series didn’t continue. **** pUKe and what they’ve done to college basketball. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Pre season hype is a big deal. It takes a bit of bad play to lose the aura. How you are perceived as a program/team plays a big part. We need to gain that aura back. Recruiting wins is a fast way to do that. I.e Memphis. Winning on the court will do it too, but it takes multiple seasons. I.e Purdue. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

I'm a Merry Christmas guy but regardless of the holiday you celebrate I wish each and every one of you the very best. Best Wishes to you all for a wonderfully happy and healthy 2020.

I went and watched him play Noblesville last night. It was a benefit night to honor his father who was killed in a farming accident this last summer. Tony Etchison had a lasting impact in both communities and the place was packed. Anyway, for a breakdown of Gus’s game, he plays much like I envision Luke Brown playing, although Ive never watched him. He is 6’ and 145. Skinny kid. He has excellent handles and can shoot, but not one of his jump shots came off an assist. He shot off the dribble and has a really smooth stroke. He appears very comfortable driving in the lane. NHS isn’t huge inside but they have a few 6’5” guys who can jump. Etchison was able to maneuver through there with not much difficulty and finished well. He would kick out often and he seems very unselfish. It was driving me nuts though because he was leaving his feet to throw passes constantly, but he was accurate with them. IMO he isn’t a B1G player. Too small. Driving in the lane at his size wouldn’t be good. I told my wife during the game that he clearly isn’t a great athlete in the classical sense, but you can tell the kid lives the game. He’s the prototypical gym rat. I could see him playing for the Sycamores, but that would be his high water mark. Possibly could play for one of the lower MAC teams. Keep in mind, I am far from a scout. I played the game and consider myself half-knowledgeable. I could be way off though. BTW he ended the game with 24 points.

The question isn't "would you accept this kind of record every year for the rest of your life." The question is would you accept it THIS year. Since our #1 objective this year is making the tournament, yes, I would definitely accept it. I wouldn't want that to still be the standard 5-10 years from now, but that's the whole point - ideally, making the tournament begets tournament success, which begets recruiting success, and so on. If we're making progress every year, not only on the court but also in terms of the overall health of the program, then I'm happy.

More on Whitt and his game last night from Miles Masercola of phenomhoopreport.com - 6’3 2021 Carter Whitt: Leesville Road High School (22 Points, 8 Assists, 1 Turnover) Carter Whitt showed everyone in attendance last night why he’s ranked at or near the top by absolutely everyone in North Carolina’s 2021 class last night. He did an unbelievable job coordinating with his teammates on overcoming Millbrook’s pressure (for the most part) and showed excellent trust in his teammates while running the team. He has special vision with the ball in his hands to go with the ability to finish at the rim in traffic. He can make shots from the outside off the catch or dribble and has incredible timing on the offensive end in every way. He’s a good athlete and is becoming a better defender in every viewing, doing a great job forcing deflections and turnovers within the zone last night. He was often the guy sent to double Will Felton whenever he touched the ball and did a nice job not letting him get his shot off. He will continue to be recruited at a very high level.

Top-ranked Millbrook survived a scare from No. 14 Leesville Road in a an 84-76 win to preserve its unbeaten record. The success that Leesville Road had in this game was largely due to junior point guard Carter Whitt's ability to break through Millbrook's difficult pressure and traps. Often facing a trap of two much taller defenders, Whitt found ways to break through and push the ball forward for his team with numbers on the other side of the press. Whitt was able to knock down two three-pointers in the fourth quarter to contribute to his game-high 22 points and 8 assists.

    (2021) PF Curt Hopf

I'm sure this kid's mother wants what is best for her son (and, very likely, what is best for her own ego as well), but coddling a child in the way she seems to be coddling typically results in damage to the overall success of the child. I feel bad for the kid if this was all his mother's doing, but I hope Indiana doesn't bring her into the "family". I also feel bad for the kid if he is indeed being bullied, which is certainly possible...albeit it is rather unlikely a star basketball player at a small school is being bullied. HARD pass, regardless.

If this kid’s mother is a complete whack job, do we really want that around the program? I guess that remains to be seen pending his development, but she poses liability wherever they go. At this point I wouldn’t want to waste too much recruiting time to inherit her if the player results won’t 100% pay off. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

    (2021) PF Curt Hopf

Being around high school basketball, I can tell you when both schools recommend a denial of eligibility, their are 100% good reasons for it. additionally, schools can not discuss publicly reasons for denial due to privacy rules involving minors....so usually the public will side with the parents who can state their case publicly unfettered. Since they aren’t coming off well, it’s probably an open and shut denial case. also seems very telling that Forest Park will be having its third coach and three years for what sounds like coaches getting fed up with dealing with Hopf’s mother.

Evansville Courier & Press - A standout Southern Indiana basketball player lobbied IHSAA officials for a transfer on the grounds that he was bullied, though school officials painted a picture of a meddling parent interfering with her son’s team and its coaching staff. An Indiana Department of Education Case Review panel last week, in a 7-0 vote, denied a request from high school junior Curt Hopf and his family that the 6-foot-7 forward be allowed to play this winter at Barr-Reeve High School after transferring from Forest Park. Hopf has drawn interest from Indiana, Purdue and the University of Evansville, among others. He is the younger brother of Clint Hopf, a 2007 Indiana All-Star who played at UE and is considered the No. 12 player in the state's Class of 2021 by the IndyStar. It was the third denial of his eligibility, following two from the IHSAA. The Courier & Press, through an open records request, obtained a copy of the Case Review Panel's final order and finding of facts from Hopf's hearing with the Department of Education body. Hopf's parents completed the transfer report and Curt Hopf indicated the transfer from Forest Park to Barr-Reeve occurred because his "parents wanted a more positive school environment," according to the panel's findings of fact document. "The parents believe that Barr-Reeve's school environment will allow Hopf to excel with a more enjoyable experience his last two years of high school." However, Forest Park and Barr-Reeve both recommended that Hopf have no eligibility under Rule 19-4 this season. Neither school signed the limited eligibility waiver. IHSAA Rule 19-4 deals with eligibility and transfers. Briefly, it says a player cannot transfer from one school to another primarily for athletic reasons. If that is considered the case, a player is ineligible to play varsity for 365 days after the transfer for his or her new school. While at Forest Park, Hopf reported to school officials that he was being bullied. The incidents involved the petitioner being called "ugly" and "soft," making fun of his religious beliefs and disparaging comments about his basketball abilities. As a result of the bullying, the petitioner became withdrawn and no longer enjoyed going to school. The petitioner testified more than 10 students bullied him, including four members of the Rangers' basketball team. However, the Case Review Panel, in its decision, wrote that "(Hopf) has not met his burden to show there was a hardship condition, specifically bullying, that would outweigh the athletic motivation for the transfer to Barr-Reeve." The panel said there was "compelling evidence that demonstrates the move was primarily for athletic motivation." The document lays out examples of abundant friction between Forest Park officials and Hopf's mother, who is not identified by name in the document but is referred to as "the petitioner's mother." For instance, a Forest Park official testified that Hopf's mother demanded her son play the point guard position in order to "give him more exposure to Division I college teams." In July 2018, Forest Park's head basketball coaching position became available and Hopf's mother questioned why a certain coach, who was not named in the panel's document, was not given a second interview. Hopf's mother openly questioned the current coaching staff's abilities. According to the document, she told a Forest Park official they needed to hire a new coaching staff or the family would seek a transfer. Additionally, Hopf's mother asked if the school would be hiring a new coaching staff within the next two years. Hopf's mother denied making these statements at the Review Committee Hearing. The case review panel order states that Forest Park Superintendent Jamie Pund said that Hopf's mother told her that the coaching staff was doing "nothing" for Hopf and he should be treated differently because of his talents. Messages were left by the Courier & Press seeking comment from both Pund and Barr-Reeve Schools Superintendent Travis Madison. The Indiana High School Athletic Association initially ruled Hopf ineligible in August and then upheld that decision in October. Hopf's family and their attorney appealed the decision to the Case Review Panel of the Indiana Department of Education. Hopf averaged 16.2 points and 8.6 rebounds for Forest Park, which finished 15-10 under first-year coach David Welp last season. Hopf helped lead Forest Park to the Class 2A state finals and a 25-5 record as a freshman under former coach Jeff Litherland. Barr-Reeve lost 60-43 to Fort Wayne Blackhawk in the Class A championship game last March. Hopf will be eligible at Barr-Reeve on Aug. 1, 2020 -- a year after he enrolled at the school, IHSAA spokesman Jason Wille told the Courier & Press.
