RE: Vonleh and TJD Discussion This is where I don't understand some peoples perception of what we should be or shouldn't be recruiting. Most everyone is saying TJD will be here multiple years and is not a OAD candidate but if TJD produces like many of you suggest or hope that he produces, I don't see him being here past 1 year. BUT, If he doesn't produce the way people are expecting or the way this team needs, then he will be labeled as a bust or a disappointment. This goes into my question a few months back, is our perceptions or expectations of recruiting flawed from the start. How can we conceivably suggest that we ONLY recruit 4 and 5 * players who theoretically are your 10, 11, 12, 13 players (if you have been doing this for multiple years, if there were no transfers, no early leaves) as freshmen. We don't expect players 10, 11, 12, 13 to be major impacts in general. However, if those 4* & 5* players don't make an impact in their 1st year, they are labeled as busts or transfer candidates. Not to mention how the player feels about the situation and become transfers. However, if we recruit lower rated players that may fit better or take more time to develop but better chance at staying with the program, the fan base complains that coach can't recruit. Also, if our top players are leaving early due to Transfers or Professional Careers, then how do we ever become an experienced group with players who are upperclassmen. There seems to be a major no win situation for high star recruits and coaches recruiting to our fan base. It is extremely difficult to have it both ways unless you have a history of being a GREAT coach and winning at a high level (AKA DUKE) or are doing something illegal (or both).

Exactly. Offers for Jake Forrester included: Seton Hall, Indiana, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Arizona State, Vanderbilt, Miami (FL), Minnesota, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Kansas State, Central Florida, Providence, Penn State, and Temple. Ranked #147 by 247 compositie. Offers for Grant Gelon included: No other D1 offers when he signed. Ended up ranked #391. Offers for Tim Priller: Incarnate Word Offers for Jeremiah Priller: Don't think he had any D1 offers. Saying Forrester 'wasn't good' is a ex post facto point. Saying Priller, April, and Grant weren't good was an ipso facto statement. BIG difference. Should also be mentioned that Miller wanted Forrester to redshirt. It was Forrester and his dad that balked at it.

So, you accuse me of making something up you said and when I post the direct quote you don't acknowledge that you were wrong. Don't fret, ebridges, I'm done responding to him. Sorry for the side bar.

    2020 General Recruiting Thread

I'm thinking a three man class (two guards one big.) 2021 is a massive class in-state. I'll take a 4 man class there (Lander, Furst, Kaufman, Goode). I don't see IU getting a top 50 player (unless that player commits and explodes during the season). I'd love Love (no pun intended) but I think he goes elsewhere. Phin is running the point for three more seasons. From realistic options I'll go with the following: #1 RJ Davis #2 Matt Cross #3 Anthony Leal #4 Trey Galloway From what the experts have said I'm confident IU is going to get Cross and Leal. Only way I see Leal going elsewhere is if IU gets a guard that is better than him (Love). Sounds like the family wants to make sure he is a top priority at IU. 2020 can be a solid class. I don't see any future All-Big Ten players. I see more of a Justin Smith and Al Durham like class. Solid role players in the first two years and could be starters after that. I just hope in two years we are talking about a Phinisee, Lander, Hunter, Furst, TJD starting line up. These guys would be perfect role players on that team.

Your first post on the subject: "Out of curiosity what exactly screams contributor to people here? No other schools with interest" I'll sit back and wait how this post doesn't scream of calling it a desperation recruit. So let's add on the following tidbits that you have said here: 1. you are apparently not defining 'creaning' as anyone on here does. 2. you say 'we don't know if Moore, Forrester, and Curtis Jones weren't 'creaned'' 3. you said that Van Zyl didn't have 'other schools with interest' and an insider posts that there are a dozen high majors with interest, that wasn't met with you by 'guess I was wrong', but rather 'which ones?' What you state as being 'realistic' and not 'pessimistic' simply isn't the case. You express possibility of 'creaning' players with no proof while skepticism when someone actually following the situation of Van Zyl says that he is being followed by multiple HMs.

RJ Davis is my hope at PG. Give me Davis Leal/Galloway -one of. Cross Garcia/Loveday -one of. Would love Steward too but not sure over whom. Wouldn’t be surprised if we end up taking Pack after striking out with RJ Davis. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Probably be a better idea to add Maryland and Rutgers as Nebraska is already listed.

IMO, at most you could say that Miller misjudged on Forrester's desire to do what it was going to take to be on the court.

This is so off topic but who would’ve ever expected to look back at the “Leaders and Legends” divisions and go “hmm...those were actually pretty good!”?

Only other offer was from Jackson State. He is from a small town in Mississippi so that may have something to do with it. Hoping we just found a diamond in the rough!

Did anyone else notice the reason for the negativity has gone from this looks like a desperate move that will lead to creaning to if a lot of high majors are interested(if factual) then Archie has no shot. This fan base can be so laughable Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Um, okay. None of them have offered him in June before he starts his senior year of high school. We'll see who offers him before he makes his final decision. My guess, he'll be playing high level D1 basketball, even if it's not at IU. I won't be surprised if "idk why Archie would want this kid" turns into "yet another miss by Archie, no momentum" if he goes elsewhere.

I voted for him. It is high time for new blood on the board of trustees. There are too many that have been there too long and they are deadwood.

lol. Yep I agree. I know he hasn’t been great in the NBA but imagine him as a 4th year guy. His rebounding numbers would have been wild. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Agree that TJD has handled everything perfectly. Hoping for the best for TJD! Excited to see an athletic big guy. Seems like he could be like Vonleh as a freshman. Maybe not quite the rebounder that Vonleh was. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

He was a part time starter at an NAIA school. I wouldn't say his offensive abilities would have gotten him on the floor. Probably pretty telling that he entered the transfer portal but didn't find anything attractive enough to keep him from coming back to IU and not getting on the court.
