Center Grove sleepwalked its way to a loss to Lawrence Central 72 - 63. I hope our resident mailman was at the game and he can give us his assessment. I thought the entire CG team put forth a lackluster effort including TJD. They didn't seem to play with any fire or enthusiasm and were repeatedly slow to get back on defense. (Sounds familiar to many of our IU games this season doesn't it?) TJD did finish with 27 points on 10-20 from the field. I didn't include in the 20 his two 3/4 court heaves at the end of the 1st and 2nd quarters. He was 7-10 on FT; 10 reb; 2 assts; 3 TO; 1 stl; 2 blks. My scorecard tonight is even more unofficial than normal as my game stream had a lot of sputters and hiccups. CG hosts Mooresville next Tuesday. Indy Star indicates TJD had 14 rebounds.

Ted Schultz - The Republic The playing status of Indiana University point guard Ali Patberg is uncertain after she separated her right shoulder in Wednesday night’s loss to Minnesota. Patberg, a redshirt junior point guard from Columbus North and the Hoosiers’ leading scorer, was injured after being tripped while driving to the basket midway through the third quarter of a 65-61 defeat. She did not return to the game. “She kind of fell on her right side and dislocated her shoulder,” said her father, Ron Patberg. “At least the initial thought was that it had gone back in place the right way, and there was no bone damage or cracks in her bone, which is a good sign.” Ron Patberg said the shoulder was separated for about 30 minutes, and that Ali was in a substantial amount of pain. “She was more concerned about playing,” he said. “That was the first thing — ‘Can I go back in and play?’” Ali Patberg had scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds in 24 minutes at the time she was injured. After that, IU coach Teri Moren used a point guard-by-committee approach the rest of the game. “It was difficult to play for the first time without our point guard, and I thought Bendu (Yeaney), Jaelynn (Penn), Grace (Berger) and Keyanna (Warthen) did a good job of being able to play without our normal point guard in there,” said in the postgame news conference. “I am really proud in a difficult situation how they handled themselves. Right now, we just have to keep our fingers crossed and pray that whatever we find out with Ali is short term.” The Hoosiers (17-7, 6-6 Big Ten) have six games left in the regular season. Their next game is at 7 p.m. Monday at Michigan State in a game that will be televised on the Big Ten network. “It’s kind of up in the air,” Ron Patberg said. “They said the way it looked from a fracture standpoint, she can go out and play with it, and hopefully, it won’t pop out again, and no more damage could be done. If there isn’t structural damage, hopefully, she can get back and contribute this year.” The injury is the latest setback for the 2015 Miss Basketball since graduating from North. She tore an ACL in preseason practice as a freshman at Notre Dame and sat out that season. Ali Patberg missed a few games with an illness during her redshirt-freshman year at Notre Dame. She then transferred to IU and sat out last season. This season, Ali Patberg leads the Hoosiers in scoring (15.4), assists (5.0) and minutes per game (35.3). She also is averaging 5.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals a game. “It’s a setback,” Ron Patberg said. “She’s pretty torn up. Obviously, she wants to play. If she can get back, she will get back. Basketball is a physical game, and injuries will occur, and she just got on the wrong end of luck. Things like this happen, and unfortunately, it’s happened to her a little too much. But she’ll come back stronger than ever.”

(2021) G Luke Brown to Ball State

Yeah, if you’re going to have an elite skill, he’s got the one to have. Great balance. Quick, simple release. Love it. Doubt if he ever gets into slumps. Handle looks pretty tight. Seems to see the whole floor. But, athletically, he’s a mile away. Doesn’t run well. No explosion downhill. Doesn’t move well laterally. We’ve all heard the comparisons to Zeisloft and Roth and Damon and Alford. He’s not as athletic as any of them. He’s really going to have to mature physically to have any chance to defend. Today he has no chance. A kid like Armaan Franklin would embarrass him. His inability to stay frontal would create constant defensive scramble situations. I would love to say I think he has a chance to be a Jordan Bohanon. I think that’s the only chance he has to play for Archie. CAM doesn’t seem interested in 6’1” guys playing off the ball. But right now, IMO, he’s got a long way to go. But that shot gives him a chance and makes him worth a follow. Does anyone know his AAU plans?

    Book Thread

I FINALLY finished Leadership in Turbulent Times. A very well written book. Has a bit of a political lean to the left (not getting political, just a forewarning is all). It's like 4 parts history 1 part self-help/leadership betterment philosophies. Plus the manner in which it is written is phenomenal. Lincoln, both Roosevelt's, and LBJ (who I admittedly knew the least about). It took a slice of of their 'early years', then a slice of their pre-presidential years, then presidential, and finally an epilogue about life after politics (if it existed). Really good. I also finished Fives and Twenty-fives by Michael Pitre. A quick read, took a few days. I couldn't put it down. It's probably 5-6 yrs old. It focuses on a Lieutenant and his platoon (mainly 3-4 characters) and their adjustment back into civilian life. The struggles that come post-Iraq. The writing style can be a bit confusing at first but you catch on quickly. Definitely recommended!

IU vs IOWA 02/07/19 GAME THREAD!

I don't think it's a collapse as much as it's a mish mash of players with no leadership and pieces that don't fit. Any team that counts on DeVonte Green (and I just heard Colin Hartman substantiate as much) to play major minutes is in trouble.

A kid who can shoot like that will get an opportunity somewhere. Could be Big Ten but doesnt mean he will play alot at that level. Matt Roth was a great HS player in Illinois but saw limited pt in college. Gonna be an interesting one to watch over the next couple years.

Yep. Until recently players accepted being (comparatively) under paid in their early years for bigger salaries a little later in their career, now they're being squeezed at both ends. It's not going to be pretty. The fact we're this close to the season and two 26 year old superstars haven't been signed is crazy.

I didn't necessarily expect to go on a new run, but I thought MSU could be a game to build off of. Last night sucked though; effort overall was better but was still inconsistent even in the second half. Green, oof. I think the best way he could help us is as a spot up shooter taking shots that come within the flow of the offense. He's not particularly good shooter but he's too careless to be looking for his own shot and frankly sucks out loud as a primary ball handler.

IU vs IOWA 02/07/19 GAME THREAD!

We lost that game because we clocked out for a stretch in the first half. We had players laying on the ground waiting for the staff to bring out their blankey for nap time. We had defenders closing out with their hands in their pockets, on a good shooting team! We committed dumb lazy fouls. We tossed the ball around like we were on the playground. We played a decent second half but the damage had been done. If we defend better in the first half we have a chance to win this game. Instead, we had players just going through the motions unless they were cutting to dunk the ball. We are not smart on either side of the court (making terrible passes and losing shooters). We give effort for short stretches (typically when we play well on offense or Archie gets into them). This isn’t winning basketball and the tournament isn’t even in question with performances like this in most every conference game. Players who show a bit of pride and want to while in the game: Durham, Forrester, Phin, Davis Players who are just out there: Everyone else That’s sad Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

I agree that there has been some progress and development. Smith is the prime example. Is he still making dumb mistakes, yes. But, he is learning his role on this team and Archie has him playing off his strengths. Al is another that has progressed. Injuries have hurt is in a HUGE way. We are behind in overall development because of this. I still have faith.
