Posts like this are why I visit this board less than I used to in the offseason.

Follow both programs fairly closely and I am fairly sure IU does not have to worry about TJD. OSU has pretty much locked up PF EJ Liddell and with his commitment, their scholarships will be minimal. Still think TJD is a lock to IU.

Count me pleased. I've been on Phinisee's bandwagon for 2+ years, and I want HIM to be our guy for the next 4 years. A 5* kid is going to play and play a lot. And he should. Carton would have (by default, maybe not by performance) pushed RP aside; and it would have stunted the growth of a kid who I think will be terrific at Indiana. Would love to see another PG signed in 2019 or 2020; but a 5* the year behind Phinisee may have been a bad fit and I wish Carton well. I'll take my chances w Phinisee and take all comers.

Harris is a Archie type guard. He is a bulldog on defense and can make shots. He is planning to visit IU later in the summer. Hopefully they can get him on campus. Vic played for the same AAU team as he does and Vic is still involved with team takeover so that could be a advantage if things start to heat up. Virginia Tech was seen as the team to beat early on but his recruitment has blown up since then. Well this was unexpected.. And people are questioning the Archie hire? Get outta here with that. You must not be paying attention to what else is going on in this recruiting cycle. No offense to Carton, he looks like he’ll be a great player, but I think there are bigger fish to fry in-state.

I'm laughing. You don't think Phinisee is a high level point guard? Let's talk in 9 months. (And I know you'll spin this with rankings, etc. I get it. Let's talk in 9 months. Phinsee has been undersold for 2 years and in Langford's shadow around this state since they played for the state title 2 years ago. Phinisee is only ranked where he is because he's not as big as Carton. He is absolutely as good as a basketball player. Just wait...)

Michigan lost him too, and they're coming off playing. In the national championship game. Not every player wants to play at IU, and that's not a slight to Archie. Just reality. We'll be fine.

I will try to place a silver lining on this unfortunate recruiting event: Is it so hard to believe it is likely that: 1) DJ Carton had three great options, and REALLY liked all three schools when he recently visited them. 2) OSU’s point guard is a senior, Simpson on UM is a junior without any real NBA early entry potential. 3) When Carton saw IU practice and scrimmage, Rob Phinisee was freakin awesome.

Holtman is a stealthy recruiter. You have to hand it to him and he gets another top player. Hopefully, we get a commit soon.

Isn't it a little premature to make such a statement without seeing Phinesee yet in an IU uniform? Or is it the fact he wasn't a top 50 player automatically negates that he can't be a stud? I remember certain PG's like Tre Burke and Aaron Craft being total pests in the BIG and the ideal PG you want on your team that can take you to the national title game . Oh yeah and both were ranked similarly to Phinesee coming out of high school.

Another point - Any time we lose a big time recruit perspective goes out the window. How about the fact that Archie is in on all these 5* recruits? Losing big time recruits is going to happen more often because we are in on many more than we are accustomed to. With Crean, we weren't anywhere near where Archie has already positioned us in recruiting and he's only had one season under his belt.

Plus as an established combo guard might be more willing to play next to Rob
