Did the bench clowns hold a funeral afterward?

Gents, I don't think it can be over-stated how positive it is for IU, that RL is planning on announcing locally rather than at Atlanta. I can't help but feel some folk with their short attention spans allow their emotions to be whip-sawed around based upon the latest nugget of rumor/innuendo/connect-the-dots, etc. In addition, I learned about a week ago from someone intimately involved in the local AAU scene that his contacts were telling him it was IU and went so far as to suggest "don't worry about having false hopes dashed." Do I personally know RL is heading to IU? No. However, based upon what I've read and been told, I feel pretty confident. McHoop

IMO it’s far more likely he is waiting to see who is coming and going. Whether it’s NBA or transferring than a concern over backlash. I have never seen a player in my life in any sport wait to commit over fear of backlash. Hell, how many Mr. Basketball’s have left the state over the last 20 years? Come on guys. We are better than this. That was a cynical based theory rooted in paranoia and literally no possibility of being true. If you said waiting on transfers at Vandy or NBA declarations at Kansas then ok. It has nothing to do with this. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Deshaun Thomas - Freshman in High School Gary Harris - November Zak Irvin - July 31st Trey Lyles - November 5th Kyle Guy - October 20th Kris Wilkes - November 13th All those players were Mr. Indiana. They all left the state for college ball. All announced before or during their senior season. I don't know if they received any backlash, but i don't remember hearing about it. Was i disappointed when they didn't chose us, yes. But after about 5 minutes of wondering why, my concentration went to worrying about the class we had coming in and players staying. It wasn't spent on bashing the player for choosing what he thought was best for him and his future. I think most reasonable and understanding fans think that way. And i think the Langford's think that way. I do not believe that worrying about backlash has anything to do with his decision date. *Disclaimer - contrary to popular belief, i have been wrong before and most likely will be wrong again at some point...though not very often*

    MSU....Heat on Izzo?

We don't have to stoop to that level. Classless behavior from thousands of people won't change the punishment. If we're so worried about the status of and respect for Indiana basketball, allowing people to behave like heathens should also be avoided. A program is often judged by its fanbase right alongside the team and relative level of success.

Yep, just my opinion here, stepping back and looking at everything we’ve gotten as information up to this point, I’d like to think IU is the leader. Pushing things back until April isn’t a bad thing, he is just wanting to concentrate on winning state, and then getting all the all-star games done and over with. People can think it’s because he truly hasn’t made up his mind, and that very well could be, but I’m gonna go the other direction on that. I like knowing he’s going to announce AFTER playing the McDonald’s AA game instead of at it with Darius being present. He’s gonna be able to to announce and then sign his LOI right away without anyone else trying to get to him to change his mind. Also, Romeo’s father saying the announcement could be at his school or have the mayor included in the announcement is a huge deal. Everyone and their brother is gonna show up to that decked out in IU gear, only for him to say “going to Vandy”?... Ouch. I’d like to think that wouldn’t be the case. I could see the mayor rip off his suit and tie Superman style with an IU shirt underneath when they do the announcement, haha. I highly doubt Romeo’s father mentioning doing it at the school and with the mayor is just blowing smoke and trying to get IU fans to put 2 and 2 together and think “well heck yeah! He’s an IU graduate!! It’s gotta be IU then!” As far as Romeo making another visit to IU with his parents, it could indeed mean he needs pursuaded a bit more, but with all the info I’ve already mentioned, I can see it as a chance to look at the dorms, and meet with an academic advisor about what types of classes he would be taking. He may already know he wants to go to IU, so he wants to get all his ducks in a row and find out other information about the school other than playing basketball. I’ve also seen info in various places that lately during this recruitment, Phinisee has been in more contact with Romeo than what Darius has, which is awesome. (I have no sources on that, just passing on what I’ve seen other people say about it). All in all, it’s exciting times for sure, and even though we have a date of April 13-30 to rely on, most if not all of us will continue to check this thread every 5 minutes of every day to see what else has been said/heard, haha.

If it is the backlash reason.....MAN that family is really stringing along 2 coaching staffs and waisting a lot of their time and money. That in my opinion would be really $hitty of them. Not to mention the players that may have given their time to go see his games. I really hope that is not the reason. That would be REALLY selfish and self-serving to the max. I do not believe this to be the case.

The Langfords don't strike me as the kind of people who would withhold revealing a decision out of fear of how it would be received.

I keep seeing stories about what Crean has done during his year away from coaching and how much improved he is as a coach -- and a man. He spent time at the Patriots training camp, where he saw how Bill Belichick commanded the attention of his players. He worked a Kansas game and was impressed with the way Bill Self ran his morning walk-through. He spent time with the Chargers before the draft, and learned how prepared they were and how in-dept they analyzed each prospect. He learned great lessons on time management, and what makes leaders great etc., etc., etc., ... That's all fine and good, but those don't necessarily help combat his weakness -- coaching in a game. Those don't help you figure out how counter a 2-3 zone when it takes you out of your offense. Those don't help you figure how to alter your defense when a big man is killing you inside. Those don't help you alter your attack when your guards aren't hitting shots. ... I actually hope he does well at his next landing spot, but I think it will be more of the same -- uneven, inconsistent performances.

What if Crean lands at Pitt? I'd be willing to bet who our ACC/B1G Challenge would be at some point over the next 2 years.

I would hope the Langford's would be above that. Everything we all read is surrounded by positive comments regarding the family. We're all just way too close to what happened with Garland and his father. And before I'm given the death sentence again, yes, that happened and yes, it was intentional. It won't happen this time.

Alford is arguably a worse coach than Crean. He’s done less with way more talent. It’s embarrassing that people actually wanted him here. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
