(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy

So help me God if we were to get both and people were to complain about oversign or getting rid of Crean players I would kick Jaybob in the nuts. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I don't need anything to happen for me to know how far we've fallen. The Mastodons beat us last year. We gave up home-court for a first round out in the NIT. There is a legitimate debate across the country as to whether or not our blue blood status should be revoked. Flip that. We landed Archie, the prodigious young coach that turned down a bunch of offers to P5 schools until a worthy offer came along. That we landed him legitimizes that we are still one of the programs with pull. That we have an entire starting 5 of promising recruits already signed on for 2018 shows that we have not lost our luster. Recruiting isn't just some allocation of players to the best programs. There are a ton of other factors. The fact that we are even in on Romeo has everything to do with our proximity to his hometown. Honestly there are a number of fortuitous circumstances that have put us in a good position with some great recruits. On the same token, Vandy is very lucky that the Garlands moved to Nashville with their talented middle-schooler in time for him to connect to the city and have interest in the program. I think the "slap in the face" comments are unwarranted. The program earned its lessened statute in 1,000 decisions since 1987. We're lucky that we have enough capital to work with to rebuild this thing. I agree with you regarding the possible decommitment. It puts a din on what is otherwise an upbeat time for the program. It may even cause one of the Indiana recruits to leave, and create an instant reputation of Archie that could hurt him. Just the same, I'm not going to view this in a vacuum, either. There are a million factors. Two months ago we had zero recruits, and weren't sure that we'd get any. We watched Robbie Carmody, Darius Bazley, Brandon Johns, Cole Swider, and I'm sure others I'm forgetting choose different programs that we view lower on the totem pole. We weren't desperate, but we weren't sure about anything. Obviously, things changed in a hurry. We started to adjust expectations somewhat from Top 100 guys to Top 200 guys, and the Aaron Henry offer came through. At this point, we got swiftly assured that we're not dead. Race. Jerome. Damezi. Then Robert. Then Jake. You can't fault Archie for having these offers out there, and rather loose restrictions on acceptance. He didn't know (just as we didn't) the strength we'd have. Did we end up with 5 quick recruits while two 5* players are on the line? You betcha. But I can see why it happened. And you have to wonder, if we were sitting here without the other 5 commits, would Darius and Romeo still see the luster with the program? Maybe not. Dang I'm long winded. Anyway, I think Archie is a straight shooter. I think he does view success of the program as his #1 objective. And I don't think he's going to work to achieve that objective by screwing over his players. It's just a situation that we'll work through.

That's been the word for a while around this end of the state. Izzo isn't going as hard since Schilling became involved. IU has caught up and is in as good of a place as can be a year plus out from signing day. He is a kid so of course things could change, but I like where we sit and he is a large reason why I feel we can land 2 5* in 2019. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I guess Evan Daniels said Darius has eliminated Duke and UK, but I can't find evidence of this except on another board. Says he's down to IU and Vandy.

If his dad didn't have the Schilling relationship I would be more worried. I feel fairly good at this one. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I'm tricky like that but I guess I should have posted in the Garland thread.

It's also very possible that Garland picks Vandy and Romeo picks Louisville. Maybe both want to stay close to home. But I do know that I feel very good about one of them coming to IU.

Wow. If Archie pulls this off he is King among men. 2 top 15 kids. A 40-60. And 3 from 80-150. Trying not to get too excited on this bit of news, but I can't help it. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

We already have a very, very good 2018 class, and are primed to have an even better one in 2019...in Archie's first two years. No matter whether we lose high-end recruits to Vandy or anywhere else, we haven't fallen and no one is slapping our face; in fact, we're already well under way in our rise up.

For all of those whom are so worried that Romeo and Garland may be a package deal. Park your butts at the Hall come HH and help turn it our way! Vandy together on a visit will be night and day to HH! Sent from my SM-G930P using BtownBanners mobile app

Hate to say I told ya so but Evan Daniels reporting Garland is pretty much IU vs Vandy. Romeo's interest is real. I have heard Garland pretty much single handedly got Romeo hyped on Vandy. Also heard IU became a big player once they both knew they liked what Archie was selling. I have a feeling we get both. Well more than a feeling. Vandy is the only school I am really worried about.

    2017-18 Season Expectations

For me I'd like it to end with a bid to the NCAA tournament. Not sneak in above the bubble, but a solid bid. I love CBB in March. Love it because I love the Hoosiers. When they are not in, March basketball is far less meaningful. Indiana should rarely (if ever) miss the NCAA. Happened too many times.

    2018 General Recruiting Thread

Carrying over what Fleek posted in the Garland thread. (2) Top 10 (1) Top 40ish (2) Top 100 and (1) Top 150 I don't want to see that big of a class every year but that's an excellent haul. That is the range we need to be in every year to compete for national titles. Two instant impact starters that fill needs. Most likely an OAD and two and through. Phinisee and Durham get another year to develop. Jones could slide to the impact scorer off the bench. One wing that will contribute over 3-4 years and likely starter from year 2 on. Two solid local recruits who can push others and contribute later in their careers at IU. One big with solid upside that isn't depended on early. This is how championship teams are built. Now, let's all do our part at HH to make sure they know how we feel about them being Hoosiers! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I will never understand why a player would want to sit on the ends of the court.

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Rabjohns has said multiple times they aren't a package deal. They both may like IU and Vandy, but not because the other is interested in both. They also both may go to the same school, but they're making independent decisions.

Army. Just hit my 2 year mark -- about to pick up SGT if this month goes how as expected. Would really like to say thanks to all the guys before me, especially the Vietnam guys. We have a lot of support from those in their right minds in the US. Was enrolled at WKU -- decided I couldn't wait any longer to join. Was my dream growing up (had older brothers join before me). Hoping Alaska and I can catch a few games this year in Anchorage granted I'm still here. Any Ranger Tabbed or Regiment guys on here?

Shittu is visiting October 6-8th. Vandy that is. I have heard soft rumors of all 3 playing there together. It would be 3 5 stars together sigh. This weekend is a lot bigger than anyone is making it out to be. Vandy is officially in the IU and U of L part if Garland is able to convince Romeo to strongly consider. The atmosphere at Vandy has been awesome this year due to the publicity their football program has generated. I still like that we get both on a visit like Vandy. If they seriously wanna play together like I believe they do just haven't made too many comments about it, I believe it could end up being us and Vandy for both. U of L doesn't worry as much as they did 2 weeks ago.
