If Jallow wasn't from Bloomington I doubt people would want him so bad. I don't want to settle for inferior players just because they're from Indiana.

Crean got a pass initially because of the dumpster fire he walked into. Nobody is giving Archie a 2-3 year pass. But not even 3 months, not through July evaluations, not even 1 practice or Official Visit and we are having this discussion. Some of you guys need to have a little more realistic expectations. We aren't Duke moving on from Coach K. We are Indiana 30 years removed from our last title and just fired Tom Crean. This might have always taken longer than a couple of months from the get go. Just maybe. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I think first and foremost Archie has stopped the recruitment bleeding. That had to happen immediately. In the past, I believe scholarships were handed out like a change belt. Any C listed player that even talked to Crean was given an offer. All that has changed and the concentration is on certain players. It takes time for culture to change but it will be worth the wait. We will take a couple of punches in the meantime, but we will also land a couple ourselves.

    2018 General Recruiting Thread

Garland is a PG and our #1 choice. But I'm sure Duke is applying a lot of pressure. It will be interesting to see what Jones does. Romeo would be huge but I think most now consider him a UK lean. Race Thompson I'm guessing will be our first commit of the 18 class. Phinisee needs to have a good July, along with Jallow for IU to pick up their interest. I mean the interest is there but there are several guys on are radar a head of them. Anderson is a must and would like to see Henry get an offer too.

The excruciating waiting time between hiring a coach and his team's first official tipoff is tough on anyone who gives a rip about the IU program. And for a guy who lives in Michigan and reads only about UofM and MSU in local media... it makes me think my school needs to pump up the PR - certainly outside of B-Town - so that Hoosier fans have something to talk, even brag about. True, news about outstanding recruits is sketchy right now; still, I'd like the Miller doubters to work at positive. Bet your big money on the season after the one coming up, but cross your fingers that coach just might orchestrate a little magic by early '18. Hey, it could happen.

Yep Indiana's administration did this to itself. It decided Mike Davis was the right guy to replace Bob Knight, and we have never recovered. They gave the Indiana job to a first time college head coach. They gave it to a guy from the south who lacked self confidence, who lacked an understanding of the culture here, and who had no idea how to recruit locally. However, he was given a permanent contract and IU never did a national search following his interim season. HUGE mistake. A 3-week run when his team (Knight's team) shot well, and made it to the final game, in large part due to the leadership of the players..not the coach. The coach, however, was given the credit, AND an extension. Huge mistake #2.. Help was on the way....and Davis was exposed for exactly what he was at the time. Ill-prepared to lead a program like Indiana. Enter Adam Herbert. Insisting that we replace Davis with a minority; so instead of "the best available candidate" at the time, and there are debates as to whether that was (who was on the University plane, contract in hand) John Belein, Kevin Stallings, or someone else, Indiana hires Kelvin Sampson. We don't need to rehash this. Then, IU hires a "name." A guy with a resume almost identical to Davis', but with better public persona. He coached Dwayne Wade and married a Harbaugh. (Perhaps you've heard) His other credentials were sketchy, but he was touted as an up and comer for reasons I still don't understand. He turns out to be a one hit wonder. He has teams every few years that do well, but he can't (and never has) win/won consistently. Nor can he build teams....he builds collections of talent. Nor did he do well locally. His successes were followed by dramatic under-achievement; and Indiana finally decides enough is enough. Wises up. Where are we now? Nobody knows, yet. We need to succeed recruiting locally. We need to upgrade talent. We need to maintain, rather than have an occasional success. We need to be Indiana again. Brass Cannon has been saying it for years. I've been annoyingly preaching it. We HAVE the recruiting base. (We do not need to go get 3* kids from Texas, Alabama, New Jersey, etc) We HAVE the resources. We HAVE the facilities. We HAVE the culture and tradition. We HAVE the fan base and support. What we needed was a great hire and the right coach following 17 years of the wrong ones. Is Archie the right guy? Time will tell.

JBJ with 8 points (3-6 shooting, 1-3 from 3) and 4 rebounds in his NBA Summer League debut with Philly. I gotta say, his defense was....well it was a familiar sight and that's not a good thing.

Still believe this kid and Dort should be prioritized just as much as Romeo and Garland. Sent from my LGLS676 using BtownBanners mobile app

I hope Vic has a break out season. He's been hovering right around 16 and hopefully the Pacers and an Indiana crowd will provide the catalyst.

Sounds like he's going to stay close to home to be with his father.

Them and Thompson would be a good class tbh

He's been here for what 3 months? What in the world were you expecting? IU is not currently a top 10 program. Historically, Financially yes. Respected still yes. Success on the court, no. Archie has the opportunity to return it to a top 10 program and yes that takes landing star recruits, but good lord let the guy walk before you cut him off at the legs.

Lmfao. Yes because him being a couple of months on the job he should have had multiple commits. Recruits should be calling him to build relationships. He takes those calls all while walking on water. I am beginning to wonder what some of you even follow when it comes to recruiting and new coaches. I say fire him and get a new coach that knows how to recruit where kids go to the boards and tell everyone that IU leads for them. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I've been inclined to be a Pacers fan but haven't really liked their roster since the Reggie Miller days. Vic and TJ Leaf will be easy to root for. I'll be watching more Pacers going forward. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Heres my thing with this class, its not a make or break for Archie. His brother wasn't able to get recruits to buy in this quickly. Its unfair to think Archie will. 2019 will be the class that really shows us the staffs chops for recruiting. We are helped that Schilling had already been on a few of these guys, but it may not be enough. I just don't want to see Archie make the same mistakes Crean did. Meaning don't throw out an offer just to do it. If we want to be elite there aren't many recruits we are still recruiting that fit that profile. I don't want to see a class of 3 Stars just because. Save the scholarships if need be.

    2018 Recruiting Class

We don't have any recruits on board this year yet, but I don't think the past few months could've gone any better for Archie with the team. Where we are right now is really the best case realistic scenario we could've hoped for back when Crean was first fired. Archie was able to "recruit" all three freshmen to stay at IU and get Collin to come back for a 5th year that no one thought was going to happen. I mean Hartman went through senior night, proposed to his girlfriend during it, the while 9 yards. It was a foregone conclusion that he wasn't coming back and Archie got him to. Archie was able to keep everyone on the roster from last year besides the 3 NBA guys, and Gelon too if you want to count him. I'm not worried at all about where we're at as a program.

I would prefer 3-4 in 2018 unless we land a possible OAD. We'll have at least 6 open scholarships (Hartman, McSwain, Newkirk, Johnson, Priller, and the current open scholarship). We would be playing a dangerous game only taking one or two. With injuries and things we might not be able to go a full 5v5 in practice with scholarship players.

Agreed. I used to go to quite a bit of Pacers games due to my dads suppliers giving him tickets. Those mid to late 90 Pacers teams were stacked. They should have won a title. That 97-98 team was awesome. I got to see a Bulls vs Pacers game in Indy that year. The Davis brothers got into it with Rodman. Jordan and Reggie went back and forth. Great game Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
