A couple thoughts from my 2 days at the Nike EYBL event in Westfield. I highly recommend any hoops junkie that loves recruiting and college basketball to attend an event like this if you are within driving distance. 10 bucks all day Saturday and today for 8, 9:30 and 11 o'clock games it was 5 dollars. Definitely worth the money. It really gives you a glimpse at the life of a college coach. Moving around from court to court. Popping in so kids see u at their games and move on to the next one. While I know they make good money by day 3 they all looked exhausted and could tell they were ready to be done. If u like meeting college coaches this is the place to go. Most of them were very approachable and didn't mind talking a little hoops in between games or moving from court to court ( or in the concession line Izzo is a popcorn guy). At the end of the day they are hoops junkies just like most of us here. I also ran into and talked with people in the media ( national and local). If college basketball is your thing this event is for you. As far as players IU is recruiting Garland is as advertised. He played very good yesterday. Nice control of the game, court vision is nice and he can shoot it. Today he didn't have a great game Brooks had a good weekend. Not much to say that hasn't been said. Seeing a 6'7 soon to be junior grab a rebound and lead the break and go coast to coast was very nice to see. Izzo was camped right in the middle in both the games I watched Swider is the surprise to me and the one I wanted to see after watching him last week and him getting an offer and he didn't disappoint. His team didn't have the most talent but they played their tails off and Cole played hard on both ends. Kid is a sniper. I watched him score 11 straight points today against wiseman and Garland. But the play that sold me was yesterday when he turned it over on one end he hustled back (yes in AAU) got a block and led the break and hit a teammate for an assist. CAM was at both games I was at These 3 were who I was impressed with and there were others but I wanted to highlight these 3. One who didn't have a good weekend from when I watched was Watford. I personally think him being on a team with 2 upperclassmen 5 stars made it hard to tel how good he actually is. It's hard to stick out as a 16 year old playing up on a loaded team Top player I saw was Cam Reddish. He will be a flat out stud. Louis King was on his team and in the first half of the game I watched was having a great game. I just figured K, Self, Williams, Kentucky were watching him......and then the second half happened and Reddish just took over. He is as advertised. Funny story to end it every coach a saw there this weekend wore some sort of clothing that promoted their schools except one. I guess when u are on a roll in recruiting you can just wear a grey sweat pants and shirt with no logo. Come on Self put a Jayhawk on your shirt. Lol Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Add Garland to a great starting upperclassmen led front court and that situation is attractive to top flight recruits. Romeo or any SG would have open shots on the perimeter and lanes to slash with a high level PG who could find them. JMo is a willing passer who has the vision to find them. We could have a special team with a few early contributors.

I think he's going to be destroyed at the next level, mentally and emotionally. Regardless, best of luck Thomas, and thanks for the Big Ten title. My favorite memory of him will be hitting those clutch free throws to ice the UK game and outplaying their overrated bigs. I wish he'd had better coaching while he was here.

Love hearing CAM and Garland talk every day. This would be a BIG fish to land and it looks like we have a real shot. A guy like Garland would make us really attractive for other players like Langford and Brooks. Crossing my fingers here.

Ugh bad choice in my opinion. Love him to death but he really needs a lot of development.

In complete seriousness, we may need Priller to step up and play some minutes this year. Our frontcourt depth is very limited. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

    TOM CREAN FIRED

Crean's like a 7 at the bar that thinks he's a 10. He's above average and has some solid suitors, but he thinks he's too good for them. He holds out for the 10 he thinks he deserves but at the end of the night he goes home alone.

(2018) ATH/WR Cam Jones to IU

My only thing about him and recruits today.... Always wishing for a visit or offer. Yes I understand we are not prestigious like other schools...but don't committ if you're like a bad gf waiting on the next Fabio to come along. This kid is so vocal about being super excited about Louisville offer and hoping so bad for a visit. Lol. It's like just decommitt. Sorry for my rant. I just wish there was some more loyalty and honor. Psh oh well if we keep him we keep him if not I'm not mad. HC Tommy boy and his crew are hitting it hard and I think we will get some great recruits this year.

Wrap-up for the Under Armour event in Indpls. Not a whole lot to report as we currently only have 3 targets playing on the UA circuit. Next event May 26-28, in Los Angeles. Kevin Easley - No idea why he did not play in the Saturday night or Sunday afternoon games. Anyone know? Sid Wilson - Played in 3 of the 4 games in last weekend's event but did not play in any of the 4 games this weekend. Eric Ayala '18 (SG) - WE-R-1 HAS IU OFFER Date Pts. I keep hearing "best young coach under forty", "Miller has put together the best cast of assistants and strength and conditioning coaches in the country", "Miller just gets it", "inside out", "we have tons of scholarships and playing time to offer in '18 & '19" etc etc but then when it comes to expectations or confidence in us landing these top prospects from Indiana, all I keep hearing is how other teams have the inside track and little confidence we land these guys. This is why we brought him in. If we don't land at least a few of these top 100 kids from Indiana then why did we make a move? He has to win over guys like jallow, phinisee, Langford etc. and I think the top 50 kid that lives down the street is the most important kid for us in telling other coaches "don't waste your time on kids in our backyard" if Bennett maintains a better relationship with a kid that lives in Bloomington than our staff then I don't know what to say Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

THIS^ couldn't agree more. Last season we had the talent where making the tournament shouldn't have even been a question but look what happened. Good or bad coaching can have a huge effect and I think Archie will have us dancing next year.

Huge series win! Suddenly in great tourney position after taking 2 out of 3 from 1st place team at time each of last 3 weekends! Just win games we are suppose to now and I think we punch our ticket. Would not of thought that after PU disaster.

Hopefully they have good coaches in the D league. He will get paid so good for him. However, he has a long ways to go before ever seeing the NBA Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk

Honestly he wasn't bad last year the few times he got legitimate, non-mop up, minutes. He can set screens and knock down open shots. Maybe Archie will give him some playing time during the cupcake portion of the schedule to see what he can do.

I wish him well too! Really disappointed that his freshman year was better than this past. You're supposed to progress every year... Right? Loved his enthusiasm. Not sure he was the brightest bulb in the chandelier but.... Good luck TB. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app

lol what prompted this, a slightly-intoxicated Friday night post, or is there something new here? I really like how much time our new staff is spending on Garland this April. My dream is that we find a way to sign both him and Phinisee, and I think it's plausible given how many guards we're losing the next two seasons including this one.

With a whopping total of 17 tweets, he's definitely not a full time reporter. A little further digging revealed he's a student assistant at Depauw.
