Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers

Not sure why all the JBj bashing, sure his defense is less than desirable, and he may not always follow offensive protocol (did Crean's offense have a system?), but James can shoot the rock, and he can score key buckets, so it's not like he's terrible, he just needs a little fixing. -

Since this thread is a bit of a referendum on next season, below is a "way too early" USA Today pre-season poll for next year. NOTE: The Archie effect has put our Hoosiers as a pre-season #15 ranking nationally, which in this poll makes them the highest ranked B1G team! https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2017/04/04/college-basketball-early-preseason-2017-18-top-25-march-madness/99893982/ -

So what is the incentive to being a clean program?
Banksyrules and 6 others reacted to Hoosierfan2017 for a post in a topic
For many years UNC had players take fake classes to stay eligible and the NCAA hasn't done anything about it. I would be concerned if people weren't complaining about it. -

Rob Johnson rolled an ankle, OG blew out a knee on a non contact play (freak accident), Juwan's shoulder injury was a high school injury and then he rolled an ankle when he tripped on a ref this year. JBJ and Hartman had previous knee injuries in high school that have continued into college. Sorry but I still don't see how any of those seem like fault of a strength or conditioning coach or lack of conditioning. -

There are only moral incentives to running a clean program. If you're the kind of person who doesn't care about breaking the rules and wants to win at all costs the NCAA isn't going to do anything to stop you. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

There is plenty of incentive to being a clean program, but zero incentive to comply with self-reporting. -

Random IUBB Recruiting
Tom White and 4 others reacted to WayneFleekHoosier for a post in a topic
I've listened to several CAM interviews regarding recruiting. Alright, here's the deal. We aren't going to land 3-5 stars every season. We aren't going to cater to one and done, selfish players. We are going to try to find players that want to win and love the game. You all will be happy to know, for a while, I won't be getting worked up about recruiting rankings. I am going to trust CAMs approach and give the benefit of the doubt. I KNOW that much more goes into winning than recruiting rankings but I also know there is a pretty concrete correlation with winning in recruiting and winning on the court. I'm very intrigued to see where our recruiting goes and how high CAM aims for players. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I still want IU to value the academic side of the equation. There should be nothing underhanded with that issue. I'm moral enough on that topic. But when it comes to recruiting, I don't give a crap. Academic scandals are way worse than recruiting scandals. There is no such thing as a squeaky clean program. That's just the nature of the beast in college athletics, particularly football and basketball Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

That's my point. It's eye opening. I was on a full ride academic scholarship and additional grants and scholarships came in as a refund check beginning each semester. It was tremendous. Never 30 freaking K though. Wow. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners -

I hope UNC loses and they have to go to one of their famous "paper classes" at their fine institution and the professor assigns a paper on DEPRESSION. The topic? How does it feel to barely lose 2 national championships in a row? The prof can go ahead and give them an "A" as long as they lose yet again! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Tom Crean Press Tour 2017
Iugradman and 3 others reacted to AZ Hoosier for a post in a topic
IMO, Crean is not a "good man"... his behavior is borderline psychotic, given his Jekyll-Hyde personality ... in his mind, he's clearly the second coming of the Wizard of Westwood ... but as we all know, he's a really bad, underachieving coach ... doesn't see the obvious (that his job is in jeopardy) ... and gets totally blindsided by his own firing ... and after spending 3, 4, 5, 6 years avoiding the media, now he's suddenly a self-appointed toastmaster general. He just needs to move along ... Indiana has had enough drama at his hand ... -

Tom Crean Press Tour 2017
IUsafety and 3 others reacted to Aaron for a post in a topic
Anyone angry at Crean that when he was coaching us he would not give the media the time of day and now he won't get away from them? I know several people in the IU media fairly well who are great guys and I know they were beyond frustrated at the lack of access he gave them during his tenure (but I have not talked to any of them since his firing to know if this makes them more aggravated that he is talking so much now). More than anything as a fan it was very aggravating that every week in Indy you would hear Painter and Holtmann almost weekly on the local radio shows here but Crean refused to come on. Even when he would talk after games he would not always make sense. With all that said I think Crean is a good man but at times he acts a bit mysteriously and his handling of media was one of the things I will never understand. -

recker222000 and 2 others reacted to JSHoosier for a post in a topic
Doing things the 'right way' sounds good, but let's be real; with the way recruiting is now there is no such thing as a clean program not even IU, just varying degrees of dirty. I don't want to hit pUKe levels of filth, but if we want to compete we have to go into the gray area. -

To be honest all the cheating has took a toll on me. I've stopped watching college sports for the past three years. I live in NC and I just got tired of people using the same excuse, " everybody cheats now", to justify their actions. I also got tired being labeled jealous. I thought that the beauty of sports was that everything was played on a equal field, but I guess I was delusional. -
