    Coach Crean.

For once.......a Positive thread. I got to spend some time talking to him tonight at Hubers. U really have to be around this guy to appreciate what kind of guy he is. I have spouted my share of things about him as many people have. But hes one of the most friendly people i have ever met in my entire life.

Did you ask him if MSB is now capable of taking on six thugs at once?

I would like to see a starting lineup of PG - Yogi SG - JBJ SF - Troy PF - Holt C - Bryant   6th man - RoJo PG/SG Others in the rotation Hartman SF/PF Ziesloft SG Bielfeldt C   Wait and See Morgan PF/C OG SG/SF   This would allow us to run on the break with Yogi and Williams leading the break.  JBJ can play the trailer for a secondary break open three.  Holt might not be the fastest player but on several occasions last year he was rim running for the easy layup.  In a set offense this would give us 3 1/2 shooters (depending on Williams ability to consistently knocking down threes while having more attempts).  Bryant has shown a good stroke from deep but needs to continue to work.  Holt needs to work on a 12' jumper.  Yogi, JBJ, and Williams should all be able to breakdown a defense for a layup or kickout.  JBJ and Troy are plus rebounders, Holt and Bryant should at least be able to hold their own.  On defense, Holt needs to work on his foot speed to stay with smaller, stretch 4s.  I would develop him more of a Green, Kawhi Leonard type of player than packing weight on him and expecting him to be an undersized 5.  (Note, I'm not saying Holt is anywhere close to being those players)  Yogi and JBJ can concentrate on defending guys their own size and not a foot taller.  Williams needs to pair his God given physical attributes and play smarter.  He could be B1G defensive first team.   What we will see too much of... PG - Yogi SG - JBJ SF - RoJo PF - Troy C - Bryant   We will be able to score but won't defend enough to finish in the top 3 of the B1G.  Our guards will wear down after player 28+ mpg in blowout wins in the OOC season.  We will be shocked when they don't defend and we struggle down the stretch.  I'll go absolutely nuts and break my TV.

I hope Max can be our enforcer and just toughen up what seemed to be one of the softest Indiana teams that I can remember last year.  He doesn't have to be all Bill Laimbeer out there, but just a guy that will give us more of a Veteran Front Court and a tougher identity.

He mentioned MSB as a guy who is making some improvement right now. Ryan Burton is at least 6"9 as well. He looked 3 inches taller than Hartman.

Small talk. I told him we want a Final Four. He said that we are not alone in that feeling.

Where will our transfers commit to?

I think executing the scholarship matters more than accepting it. Hanner would have zero chance of winning. The NCAA grants no waivers anymore for transfers that haven't graduated.

One of our best strengths is our transition offense. Why would we give that up? We have a roster than can be used to fit our strength, and our players operate well in our offense.

If we lose to Michigan it won't be because they had extra incentive to beat Max.

He'll be the slowest player on the floor though.  Zeller was the fastest.  It doesn't necessarily matter if he has a little speed.  If he can't rebound and then get out ahead of the play like Zeller could, we need speed with him.   That wasn't a shot I took at Bryant...he is what he is.   But he and Hartman together don't allow Indiana to do what it needs to do in order to be at their best.

Obviously you didn't watch the Dukes of Hazard...or you would think Cooter was the coolest of all words...

Slow is this staff's MO. We are actually on the same pace as the last couple of years. One commit last year at this time, two the year before. CKW is not a big fan of early commits.

I just can't Colin starting. I think he works perfectly as energy off the bench. He brings good basketball IQ but doesn't seem to have the it factor to be a starter and getting big time minutes. Too inconsistent for that. I got nothing against Colin. I like what he brings to the table as a role player bringing energy off the bench.

The Devin Ebanks and Terrell Holloway situation is when a player commits but the coach they committed to leaves, the players are released from their LOI and allowed to sign somewhere else. That is still allowed but  thats a whole different story than what happened to Hanner, who was here for multiple years. I for one don't feel sorry for Hanner. He should've learned after his first incident. Thats a whole other topic though

We had a great offense with Watford at the 4. He's not a player like Williams. Obviously no problems there. We have a player similar to Watford. His name is Colin Hartman. So I see no problem for Crean by putting Williams in at the 3 spot.

If he so much as keeps his hands up on defense, I'll be happy. That's more than we normally got out of Hanner...

    Colin Cowherd

I think Colin is a good barometer of where the casual or general fan age 40+ views Indiana as a program. Colin is a self-avowed "casual" college basketball fan. One that basically only checks-in in March for about 5 weeks. He, and many of the same type of fan of that age, still see Indiana that way. I think his staff, mostly made up of youngsters, sees Indiana as most Gen Y and Millennial's view it; as a middling program. They have never seen Indiana be "Indiana". They do not know or realize that with simply the right coaching hire, this program will be back up to Blue Blood status.   Like it or not, but the last generation to really know and understand Indiana Basketball is Generation X. Those of us from 35-45. We were in our late childhood to teens during the last great run of Hoosier basketball ('85-'95). If the next hire is not a Home Run, we will lose yet another generation.

    IU Trustee Election

Thanks, Mike.  It's "off topic" and in a political realm many want to steer clear of, so I am prepared for those comments if they come.    Having said that, I actually talked via email with Mike not long ago, and he shares every frustration we all do.   He also thinks there are others in the camp that can make a difference.   His first priorities are obviously the betterment of the IU community as a whole, and his priorities are in line.   But athletics as a window to the University is a concept he's on board with, and I like him...always have.  He was a friend in school, and I'm happy for him that he's taking this step.

I guess I don't see why he wouldn't wait. He has a relationship with the assistant, TJ Otzelberger, and could select ISU if he were named head coach. As mentioned above, IU has two open scholarships so there is no real push for MB to commit. I really think the "if you haven't decided by now we don't want you" mentality is strange. Maybe I'm missing the point but he is making an actual decision about his future.

Houston would probably be a good fit.
