    Larry Brown on Tom Crean

Thought this was fairly interesting and gives a bit of insight into what many in the coaching community think of Coach Crean.   This, from Larry Brown:   "When I was in the NBA and he was at Marquette, I used to always go over there and watch their practices and watch him and learn," Brown said. "We just developed a relationship. He got me the Stanford job. I've just admired him. He works, he cares about the game and cares about people in the game. He shares ideas. He's a quality, quality person."

Taking your advice on PERSPECTIVE...   PTSD, or PTS, can be the result from many different situations and it's a *itch.  Within the last 3 weeks Holt made a horrible choice by drinking underage, getting behind the wheel after drinking, hitting a teammate and what seems like a very, very close friend, seeing said teammate unconscious in a ditch, knowing his teammate was in the hospital in serious condition, understands that teammate has a long road to recovery, and was suspended the first 4 games of his college career (2 or 3 however you'd like to count them).  He's probably not in the best place mentally right now.  The last thing he needs right now is more "failure."   Unfortunately, I know a thing or two about PTSD.  It makes a very intelligent and mentally strong person extremely fragile in the blink of an eye.  How many times do you think Holt has replayed that night in his mind?  How many times doe you think he second guesses his actions that night?  (I'm not placing blame on Holt at all but he was involved in the situation)   I've personally witnessed perfectly normal people make irrational decisions after a traumatic incident.  A Ranger we supported in Afghanistan blew his brains out less than 8 hours after not being able to save his buddies life.  His fellow Ranger had zero chance of surviving after their vehicle was struck by an IED.  A rational thinking person would have known this but that traumatic incident altered his mind.  To a lesser degree, I've seen troops barely capable of accomplishing the most menial task after being involved in these incidents.   After a traumatic incident you have to put a person in a position to succeed.  What happens if he goes in and makes a few bad plays that leads to an IU loss?  Putting Holt in a position last night where he didn't have the experience combined with what he has gone through coach could have lost him for the season.  Holt needs some "small" victories in practice and a few successes in limited minutes against cupcakes to build his confidence and get his mind right.  Once he has a little experience against cupcakes and gets in the flow of the game with his teammates in actual games I'm sure he will settle into a nice role soon enough.   PERSPECTIVE...  There are some things in life that are much bigger than IU basketball and what some fans want to see during a basketball game.

They'll just shrink the hoop to be a little smaller than the ball. Like at a carnival. Mark it.

if I was told our center had 2 points and zero rebounds, and our team shot 36% from the arch and 34% from the floor, I'd tell you SMU shut down our strength and our weakness was exposed. But wait, we still won. They let the 3 ball beat them, even though we only hit 36% of them. This team will shoot until they win. It has been pointed out, that a total of 6 individuals would all have to have an off night for us to be shut down from three.

They don't need to double any of them. They just can't lose track of any of them. Probably shouldn't lose track of Colinn either. Or Max.    By they way, while these teams are making sure not to lose track of six good (Rojo, Colinn, Max) to excellent (JB, Yogi, Nick) three point shooters, they have to keep Yogi, Troy, Rob and Stan from driving to the rim. And sometimes that takes help defense; ie, a double team.   On second thought, maybe it will take two defenders to stop the ball now and then. JUST LIKE IT DID LAST NIGHT!   FWIW, this Hoosiers team could be defensively.. ahhh...challenged. But, we also, without question, present a difficult defensive conundrum for our opponents.

This! Holt is likely a little green still.  Be happy CTC recognized that and didn't throw the kid to the wolves last night... Imagine the mini meltdowns on here if Holt had played and gotten embarrassed in some way or made a crucial turnover. Here's to Holt getting his feet wet against Lamar, and hopefully alleviating a lot of our interior woes!

Another record tonight...   Indiana WBasketball @IndianaWBB  Indiana's three-game total of 294 points is an #iuwbb record for points scored in 3 straight games. IU scored 281 in 3 games in 1991-92.

Just got home. Looks like easy work again for us tonight. To bad we aren't playing at their place cause I think they are one of the teams that had a free stream last year.   Jenn Anderson and Karlee McBride lead all scorers with 13 Amanda Cahill - 8pts,  9rbs Buss - 8pts, 4rbs, 4asts Brooks - 5pts, 3rbs, 6asts

Dude you need to chill out.  You say Holt and April were brought in late because they were supposed to be ready to jump right in and contribute.  LOL that's news to me.  They're Freshman bro, we've already got 2 in the starting lineup.  April will not play many minutes if at all.  This was Holt's first game.  They're not the Fab 5!

Careful man, I complemented Crean's coaching, specifically his switch to the 1-3-1 zone, and got put on blast for it. Lol

    Revised Season Expectations

Not really.    We knew shooting would be a strength and it is going to help us make up for a lot of our other deficiencies.   I still believe we outperform preseason predictions and are top 5-6 in the Big Ten, top 25 in the country, and we make the dance.   IF---and it's a big IF---we learn how to rebound and defend the interior better---we could do even better and shock the pundits!
