Trey reminds me a lot of Will Sheehey. A phenomenal role player on the right team, but not a top 3 option on offense type of player.

I do think the fit for Perkins is better if we go Mgabko 4 and Reneau 5. You protect a non shot blocking center with guards and wings who can keep their man out of the lane. And having a plus shooter at the 4 helps offset Perkins' relative lack of shooting. If you start Perkins and Galloway together, the 3 and 4 absolutely have to be plus shooters. And even then, spacing will still probably be an issue.

Perkins was second team All-B1G correct? Not sure you can pass on that in the position IU is in

These shorter spring recruitments are much more like NBA free agency — meet the staff, see the facilities, here’s NIL range, can you be here in June, we’re also after Players B and C, think these players are returning…. So that and charism, plus what IU more broadly can offer?? Makes sense it’s Woody’s wheelhouse. Need to get better at the more typical, longer HS ones. 2 McD AA wings would’ve been nice this offseason. One is a nice consolation after the other dropped away. Malik at the 5 can work defensively some of the time — really need a backup, truer 5 who can protect the rim and can stretch out to 20-25 minutes some nights. That’s an easier portal patch than someone with Malik’s skills.

Completely agree. But we have seven open spots and plenty of room for a catch and shoot wing to add to the mix. Miller Kopp was underappreciated in his time! A little more food for thought: Cupps was 36% from three on low volume this past season. And he’s in the gym every morning at 6 AM working on that jumpshot. He has a ton of room for growth as a shooter.

Just saying. I’ve read a lot of strong opinions that we have to hit multiple home runs with our seven likely open spots. I know it hasn’t happened yet, but if a five star freshman and the second team all Big Ten point guard are the first two additions? That’s pretty ******* strong.

Tony Perkins is a grown-@$$ man on the basketball court. Sign me up any day any way for adding him.

Yeah, I think the Tucker news got people excited. I also jumped to, if they are getting Tucker…that’s means we aren’t playing 2 bigs. But again… let’s take it one step at a time… lol

Yeah, all good points. My big concern with Malik at the 5 is that he does not rebound well enough right now. Mgbako I think can be a good rebounder at the 4, but he is also not a high level/consistent rebounder as of now, and he will likely still play at the 3 IMO for at least a good amount of time if he does in fact stay. That said, I think Malik showed a lot of improvement this year and if he makes a similar jump next year, I could see him playing some time at the 5 and it working well... plus, Mack will be a great sophomore if we're able to keep him. My "sunshine pumping" hot take is that I'm hopeful Gallo shoots better next year (I'd take 33% on low-ish volume... just enough to keep defenses honest.). In 2022-2023, he shot 46%, I'm sure the volume was low and his 3PT/FG%s have been low otherwise. But in his last year of eligibility and with a hopefully more focused role, I'm hoping he can be more efficient.

I think people don’t give credence to the idea that guys get better. That what we saw this year is not going to be the same next year. Case in point… I don’t think Galloway forgot how to shoot this past season. I think he was asked to do so much more in handling the ball and guarding the best player on the opposing team. Ease his responsibilities and maybe he gets back to where he was two years ago. MR made a big jump. Why wouldn’t he continue to work to improve? Cupps the same. Mbako made a huge jump from the beginning of the season to the end. If he comes back, I would expect further improvement. Other teams will improve as well, but our guys aren’t going to be stagnant

Yes — all things being equal I like multi year portal players if you go that route. Expanding on my assertion that Malik can cover you SOME defensively at the 5, think there’s a few considerations: 1. With Malik himself, you give away some rim protection but potentially take away some of the fouls he accrues far from the hoop. 2. As others outlined, you can diminish (but not eliminate) the need for some rim protection with better defense everywhere else. 3. No Edey next year, Dainja’s a part-time player, none of the other 5s in the B1G next year as of now project to be Edey/TJD/Dickinson-level performers IMHO

I wouldn’t think so unless he shoots the ball a lot better than expected. I love the idea of Tucker joining the team but wouldn’t be thrilled if he’s promised ~30mpg.

If we add three guards/wings better than Galloway, I'll be absolutely thrilled. I would not consider it likely though. Prove me wrong Mike.

Mack is a super fun player and will likely be very good at a power five, but I’m partial to the guy that averaged 15 points a game against Big Ten defenses. And he’s a local kid. And he plays angry and defends and really rebounds considering his position. If the same people who are calling for Malik Reneau to be our five think that we can have skinny, low, physicality guards, you’re asking for lousy roster construction again.

Kansas just contacted Conner Hickman and told him they want to recruit him per Rabby. Bill Self is always all over our jock.

Not me. I would love to get him. Love McNeely for our needs, I’ll probably love Tucker too. Just would like it to be with Mgbako instead of in place of.

This makes sense but it would be a net negative for the team. Getting Mgbako back needs to be high priority.

It's honestly unlike anything you'd ever imagine for a Big East school. That is why they mostly play at the Prudential Center... Walsh Gymnasium is way less nice/impressive than a lot of high school gyms. Probably every HS gym in Indiana lol. It's extremely dated, but space is hard to come by in their city and it's a relatively small school, so very unlikely they'll get investment to make serious upgrades. That said, it's a really fun place to watch a game. You're basically right on top of the action, similar to Cameron Indoor in that sense (but way smaller). Plus, tickets were cheap - $20/pop usually, not sure about for the NIT games. NIL is very challenged there too. Tough job to be successful in, especially in this era. I think Shaheen will get them back to the tournament but could see him moving on to bigger and better things after a certain point.

Legitimately an emotional experience in there tonight. Couple of old ladies in front of me (who you could tell were coming to Sycamore games before my parents were born) were hugging and fighting back tears during the big run in the 2nd half. Someone may have been cutting onions right by me.
