Yeah, I don't think the problem is under appreciation of shooters, it's under utilization. Woody doesn't think it's the coach's job to help them. Funny, says he is doing his job, but never defines what it is. Until his offense does something to help the best shooters, I don't see the results changing much.

We have the same amount of openings today as we did yesterday. Still waiting for the first domino which will probably be Tucker. I'm sure his camp is just waiting for the funds to hit his bank account

That sucked, 2 sleepy NIT games last night! Fell asleep during both once they were over 20 point leads. Here’s to great games tonight! Cheers!

Justin Smith could jump through the roof, but would airball an 8-foot jump shot. -
Hey, look, what Perea was supposed to be able to do but actually couldn’t.

I like any post that quotes Kenny Powers. Just wish Dolson would have quoted as well. “Woody, you’re f-ing out!”

and we thought TJD could get up. -
We’ve got three years of evidence and quotes that point to Woody simply not believing the 3PT line is a viable strategy to win games. Period. I more or less expected this. He is obsessed with stars and athletes, which, given his systems is probably what he needs. I don’t believe it’s a recipe for major success in CBB. The ceiling is what we saw with TJD and JHS. Thats just the reality. The Tucker kid doesn’t move the needle for me at all. He was a G League Ignite lean until they disbanded the team. And was the only top 30 player not committed elsewhere until Liam bounced on us. In the words of my man Kenny Powers this is simply about Dollar Dollar Bills Yall. It’s a desperation move, not filling a need per se.

Still frame from the Ant Wright video. Don’t have any idea about what his hand looks like but is said to have a 42” vertical…that looks like it might be legit. -

Agree, but my worry is that Woody is going to play all of the players who aren't shooters together. I mean, he DOES seem to have a history of valuing players who are not great shooters, so... I could just see him actually move MM to the four (if he actually doesn't try to go to the NBA), which would be great, and then move that Frosh to the three, keep TG at the 2 and Perkins at the point. I know...I know... making a TON of assumptions here, but bear with me. That would STILL create a lineup that's short on shooting. Based on reviews of the freshman and what I've seen of Perkins, it would be VERY short of shooters. Until I see at least 2 very good shooters sign with IU, I'm going to be very leary of anybody that Woody signs. And then, I'll believe that he's going to actually play the shooters and get them shots when I see it.

(2024) - SF Bryson Tucker
RaceToTheTop replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Bryson played on the U16 team in the FIBA Americas Games in which the US won gold. He averaged 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds. He's young for his class -- will turn 18 the summer after he graduates. His dad was a good college player. Started his career at NC State then transferred to George Mason. Averaged 21 points as a senior. Review of his game from Eric Bossi: Tucker is a big wing who has a pretty polished game on the offensive end of the floor. He is able to use his size to finish in the lane where he is also a very functional athlete who can get off the floor quickly in small spaces, changes direction well in traffic and has a great frame to build on in a college weight room. Where he really stands out, though, is with his ability to score from the mid range. Tucker gets to his spots without wasting dribbles, elevates and is problematic for defenses trying to stop him from scoring from between 12 and 17 feet. As Tucker gets away from the rim and shoots deeper jumpers, his shot does tend to flatten out a bit so while he's not a poor shooter from beyond the three-point line, there's still plenty of room for him to improve out there. While he's able to quickly get to his spots for one and two dribble pull-ups, Tucker could also benefit from developing his handle a bit more. Because of his size and ability to carry more muscle on his lean frame, he should be able to make the adjustment to the college game relatively quickly. -

FWIW, the crystal ball came from a Maryland University contributor. Tucker is from Arlington, Virginia --- literally 20 miles from Maryland University. -
I wonder if guys in the transfer portal ever talk to one another about the NIL….Man, that Woodsman at IU I’m going to check that gig out…He’s got a briefcase full of cash.

Absolutely a priority, but that doesn't mean it would necessarily be a reality. Sometimes kids are set on going to the draft regardless of where/if they think they will be drafted. To me, it makes financial sense for MM to come back for another year IMO unless you can get a guarantee from a team that you are going to locked on a roster and not in the G league. I don't see him getting that guarantee and not sure he would get drafted. Could be a possibility that the staff knows or -- in my opinion -- simply have reason to believe that they feel that MM isn't sure and is waiting to hear from scouts. Teams simply don't have the luxury of waiting around now and its probably best to go ahead and try to build a roster assuming they aren't coming back and then adjust if they do. I still think MM's best path to pros is as a stretch 4 but I'm not sure he feels that way. -
Why can’t you add Perkins and a shooter? And another shooter after that? There’s 7, possibly 8 open scholarships that need filled. IU needs a PG. Perkins was 2nd team All-B10 last year. What are we even doing?
-
Yep, I like Perkins and I like Galloway, they are similar players… we need at least 2 sharp shooters in the line up and neither of them are that
-
Ok, but I'm going to keep saying this almost as much as people in this thread say, "Fire Mike Woodson!" WE NEED SHOOTERS. WHERE ARE THE SHOOTERS? I like Perkins. He plays hard and is a good Athlete, but he's just a so-so, kind of streaky shooter. As they have for years now, IU needs some shooters.
-
Even with the historically bad football team, IU's basketball team should be good enough to keep the school off of these types of lists. A new coach would probably help. https://collegefootballnews.com/rankings/worst-college-football-basketball-schools-13-to-20-indiana-army-umass-2024
